Overview
Balancing financials, reaching monetary goals is a struggle for young individuals.
The Challenge
Young adults gain financial independence but lack the tools to bridge the gap between "earning" and "saving" when their income fluctuates monthly.
The Outcome
Created a personalized feature that adapts to users' spending habits through percentages, removing the burden of constant calculations across the spending categories they choose.
Discovery
Listening to the Streets
Through on-site interviews near bank branches, speaking with people across all age groups helped me build a deeper understanding of financial literacy and attitudes toward saving. However, I discovered a key pain point among young individuals: despite having higher financial literacy than older generations, they struggle to keep their finances stable and build consistent financial habits.
Limited Earnings
Identified as a core blocker for young users attempting to start their savings journey.
Tedious Options

Low Literacy
Identified as a core blocker for young users attempting to start their savings journey.
Overwhelming UI
Identified as a core blocker for young users attempting to start their savings journey.
Ideation
Finding out the Potential
I began working on creating the persona out of the people I've interviewed. Then reviewed customer journey's of current mobile apps such as SpareBank, DNB and S Banken (Norwegian banks) by using them through participants daily use. This gave me a foundation to begin sketching out wireframes which I have tested through usability testing with target users and iterated on my designs.
The Outcome
A clean, high-fidelity experience built on the principles of clarity and financial empowerment.
Categorized Awareness
Set your savings percentage for any category. This way, saving feels much smoother without handling specific numbers.
Insightful Flexibility
Provides insights every time you visit the page. Customizable anytime to reach any monetary goal, or access all of it at once when an emergency hits.
Financial Empowerment
Know how much contributions you get towards your goals within the opitons your bank provides. Customize it whenever you want.
Reflection
Young people need financial features built on listening, not assumptions.
The more I listened, the more my blind spots surfaced. The percentage idea appeared after realizing the challenge is not being consistent or having a lot of money, but feeling in control while saving is effortless.
Dealing with numbers and calculating them all the time gives a more cumbersome experience. That is why, in my opinion, users found it useful to use percentages instead of fixed amounts.
